Floors To Adore: Wood Edition

While we most frequently focus on the walls, it is important not to ignore the 5th and 6th plane. Floors and ceilings can have dramatic impact on a space, and alter the interior experience completely. In this post, I'm showcasing some gorgeous wood flooring options; see below:

Reclaimed, wide planks get better with age and have a softer appeal when bleached or shown in a natural finish

Painting stripes onto a wood floor was a gutsy move, but absolutely worth it in this installation!

I will always desire a reclaimed wood floor laid in a herringbone pattern. classic.

To Market, To Market!

We're heading to 3 markets this month in search of new and exciting items to introduce in 2011!

We'll be traveling to vintage flea markets and antique shops in the beginning of the month to find unique, one-of-a-kind items that will add character and history to your home.

Later we'll attend the San Francisco gift show to see what's new with some of our favorite vendors.

Toward the end of the month, we're heading to Vegas, Baby! We'll stroll the endless showrooms at the World Market Center for an entire week, seeking great new resources and fabulous furnishings to share with you upon return.

New Year's Cocktail...

This New Year's Eve, add a bit more to your bubbly and try one of my all-time favorite champagne cocktails, the Kir Royale!

This blushing cocktail is as pleasing to look at as it is tasty. A Kir Royale can be enjoyed with brunch, lunch, or dinner! Best of all, it's absolutely simple to make!

Just follow these simple steps to create your own blushing bubbly:

Kir Royale

• Start with a lovely champagne flute
• Pour 1 Oz of creme de cassis* (or chambord**) in the glass
• Tilt the glass and fill it with champagne or sparkling wine
• Garnish with a lemon twist (traditional), or simply drop red fruit like raspberries, cranberries, or pomegranate seeds into the glass to enhance the color
• Enjoy!!!

*The best creme de cassis is one that comes from Dijon - France, so look for the word Dijon on the label.

**Chambord is a lovely berry liqueur, it's a great alternative and makes a delicious Kir Royale.

Looking back on 2010...

I just wanted to take this opportunity on the eve of the New Year to look back and reflect on all that has happened in 2010.

We have welcomed back some of our favorite Harvest associates (Mark and Katie Manasco in Burlingame), and welcomed new members to our teams in both stores, (Kate in Menlo Park, and Lori and Jennifer in Burlingame). We are thrilled to have such a talented team of associates, and we welcome them to the Harvest family!
3. We have doubled our In-Home Consulting business! In 2010, we have increased our efforts to offer in-home design assistance at a fantastic rate! Professional, on-site design advice takes the guesswork out of home decorating and enables us to provide you with a greater level of customer service.
4. We are proud to have introduced many new one-of-a-kind and vintage items from around the world. This year, we've expanded our inventory to include truly unique furnishings and accessories, collected from antique shows, vintage markets and sources around the globe. Our top-selling Nantucket Collection is perhaps the star of this line-up with its distressed patina of time-worn materials in rich colors and textures.
5. Last, but certainly not least, 2010 marks the year in which we opened the doors to our New Burlingame Location! Expanding our business up north along the peninsula has been a wonderful and successful new venture. We are thrilled to have experienced such a warm welcome in our new location and look forward to serving the Burlingame community and surrounding neighborhoods!

Color Update: Graphite Gray Sofas

Velvety, graphite-gray fabrics adorn the unique silhouettes of these sumptuous sofas. This cover choice is both inviting and durable, two attributes we always seek in Harvest furnishings. We will introduce this fantastic material to our floor sample sectional in this next season's floorset. I'll be sure to post pictures when our graphite-gray, velvet sofa comes in!
