In the Closet...

Are you a closet work-a-holic?
If you're looking to create a home office, but are limited by square footage, consider taking over a closet!

Take note of what makes these clever closet offices work...
  • well-defined color schemes
  • corralled clutter
  • accenting the interior walls with a pop paint or wallpaper
  • using vertical storage space
  • wall-mounted memo boards
  • integrating a fun lamp or unique pedant for task lighting
  • replacing boring closet doors with softer curtains
  • coordinating with adjacent rooms

Trend Alert: Document Fabric

Scripts, fonts, and classic ephemera are scrolled across the accessory marketplace. "Document fabric", as many retailers are calling it,  has made its way into the mainstream. The romantic swirls of signatures are gracing the covers of pillows, handbags, curtain panels, slipcovers and even lampshades.

At Harvest, we have 4 or 5 different document fabrics to choose from. All are available by the yard or on any of our upholstered pieces. We're so on trend!

We're Inspired By...Tommy Smythe

Tommy Smythe, known originally as the side kick to HGTV's Sara Richardson, has inspired us with his brilliant room styling and mastery of accents. His vignette compositions always tell a story of style without appearing overdone. His interiors are wonderful examples of "editing", showcasing well-chosen and distinct elements of design.
Accenting with black can be quite challenging for many designers, and I have always felt that Tommy Smythe integrates black accents better than the rest. See the proof in his rooms pictured below:

Are you feeling inspired?

Quote: The Art of Editing

"A designer knows he has achieved perfection not when there is nothing left to add, but when there is nothing left to take away."

One-of-a-kind: Vintage Nurse's Station

If you're familiar with Harvest you know that we occasionally bring in a few one-of-a-kind items to add history and character to our displays. Well, this piece is no exception!
This vintage nurse's station, finished with sky blue enamel, is an absolute conversation piece. It's just waiting for the right buyer with a creative mind and love for all things shabby-chic.

Wouldn't it be darling in a boy's room as a homework desk?
Or maybe in the kitchen with cookbooks and an old-fashioned phone?
Perhaps in the entry for keys, mail, and bills?
So many possibilities....!

Chipless Wonders!

I just recently discovered one of the most fabulous cookies I've EVER had! Have you heard about "Chipless Wonders" from Tate's Bake Shop?

Mmmmmmmmmm...
Melt in your mouth goodness!

The cookies come from a small bakery in Southampton, NY, called Tate's Bake Shop. I just happened upon them at Brown's Valley Market, a small specialty food store in my neighborhood, and now I'm hooked.
They make a great variety of cookies, but I highly recommend the "chipless wonder"!

Look for them at your grocery store, or find them here on-line.
Dee-lish!

I thought I'd add a new feature to the blog. "Window shopping" will feature the storefront windows as they change each month. Of course, the pictures are never as good as the real thing. Stroll on by the Harvest windows next time you're out and about to see what's new!

Trend Alert: Shutter Style

Lately, we're seeing shutters sprinkled throughout the marketplace. This once utilitarian window covering has taken new form indoors as wall decor.
Consider shutters to embellish your home. You'll find so many creative ways to integrate them!
We've just introduced the most adorable shutter memo board. It's absolutely functional in a home office for letters, cards, memos, invitations, etc, or display them on their own to enhance a window or mirror.

Check out these other shutter design ideas...
