Can't get enough of "farmhouse chic!"

  • the screen adds a lot of depth

  • perfectly accented with a vintage dough bowl and ceramic carafe

  • the old bistro chair in the corner is a nice detail

Hunting for Trends

Everybody loves to look ahead to forecast upcoming seasonal trends in fashion, design, and decor. My mom and I are no different. As we sat flipping through the latest magazines this weekend, we couldn't help but notice a distinct trend that I referred to as "hunt and gather". The fashion magazine pages are packed with images of sumptuous leather, rich furs, feathers, animal print details, and "collected" accessories. Think wild/primitive/hunting/safari, (not camo --so five years ago).

It has always been the case that interior decor follows fashion, so you will, no doubt, be ahead of the game by hunting and gathering decor of this nature for your home.

Quick Changes for Fall

Accent your home with the warmth of autumn. Integrate earthy reds, rusts, and persimmons to transform your home from the breezy days of summer to the comfy, cozy evenings of fall.

A few quick change ideas...

  1. change out lamp shades to a rich red to add a pop of color and cast a warmer glow
  2. add another layer to your otherwise neutral drapery panels to help keep colder temperatures out and bring cozy colors in
  3. remove the white linen toss pillows from your sofa and replace them with autumnal patterns and rich textures
  4. add a cozy, textured throw to complete the ensemble and invite guests to curl up in comfort

Trend Alert: Sunburst Mirrors

These mirrors are bursting from the pages of magazines and catalogs lately. Sunburst mirrors come in a variety of shapes, styles, and sizes. They are show-stopping on their own, but can also be grouped to create a star-studded gallery composition. What a great way to add excitement and glam to your interior!

Vintage Textile Throws

You must come in to see our new collection of vintage pieced blankets. They are an incredible patchwork combination of hand-stitched vintage textiles from India. Each is one-of-a-kind, and will certainly add a colorful layer of comfort to your living or bedroom.

Go Fig-ure

My husband was out of town this weekend, and I didn't feel much like cooking, so I went to Brown's Valley Market to see what I could find in the way of prepared foods. (BTW, Brown's Valley Market is a great neighborhood specialty food store in Napa, --where they display their bakery goods on Harvest's reclaimed wood tables, I might add). I scanned the deli case and felt uninspired, so I walked around looking at their gorgeous produce displays, (it's one of those stores where they actually line up every carrot.) There I found some perfectly-ripened Black Mission Figs, and felt inspired to assemble (rather than cook) my dinner. I picked up some Costello Blue Cheese (my fav) and imported, thinly-sliced prosciutto. I had forgotten about this fantastic combination until it touched my lips; rich, creamy, salty sweet, divine! Very rustic, very fall, very delicious! You should try it too.

  • Slice figs into halves
  • spread a bit of blue cheese on the cut side
  • wrap with prosciutto
  • enjoy!

Some recipes suggest grilling this combo and drizzling with honey and balsamic, which is even better. But, if you're not up for grilling, and you find great quality ingredients, then the three in combination are just right! Pair with a Pinot Noir or Viognier to enhance the flavors.

New meaning for the term "barrel shade"

I recently discovered this incredible artist who hand-crafts one-of-a-kind lanterns from repurposed French Oak wine barrel staves. Designer Adam Goldring works out of his Napa barn to create these gorgeous fixtures. His unique combinations of burlap and wine-stained staves exude an unparalleled warmth.
