Current Project: Chillax Basement

I was recently asked to put together some ideas for a newly-remodeled basement lounge area. The homeowners have created a space that their teenage children refer to as the "Chillax" room, a space where one can "chill-out" with friends and "relax", escaping the stress of life as a teen. The kids wanted to create a "modern" vibe, with sleek textures, clean lines, and minimal ornamentation. The existing charcoal gray sectional and flat screen TV are the anchors in the room.

To warm up the aesthetic a bit, I've suggested adding some more natural elements (like the off-white cowhide area rug, the driftwood sculpture, leather cocktail ottoman, etc.) To add function for light dining and a work surface for games and/or school projects, we opted for a pub-height table in the snack area to create a more swanky, lounge type feel. The second idea board below offers alternative dining and occasional pieces surrounding the same anchored gray sectional.

So....Yes, Harvest can do eco-modern too!
Do you have a favorite among the two schemes?

Current Project: Healdsburg Farmhouse

I recently met a lovely couple who just purchased an incredible home in Healdsburg, CA. We immediately hit it off after discovering our shared enthusiasm for the romance and tranquility of wine country along with our desire to turn a classic farmhouse into the ultimate vineyard retreat!
Hello, dream project, nice to meet you!

--actual house -TDF (to die for!)--

We have been working on the schematic design over the past few weeks, sharing inspirational images and design ideas for each of the unique spaces. The homeowners are hoping to create a casually elegant retreat that connects the interiors with the gorgeous surrounding landscape. Our plan is to maintain the farmhouse simplicity and classic white interior details, adding life to the scheme with romantic florals and colorful patterns. We'll soften the look with inviting furnishings and rich textures to add depth and comfort.

The project is just getting underway, but I wanted to share some of the idea boards that we've put together so far. Feel free to comment and share your ideas.

Old Lumber Showroom in Las Vegas

I recently had the privilege of designing the Las Vegas showroom for our favorite vendor, Old Lumber!

It was so much fun to create unique vignettes to showcase this incredible collection of reclaimed wood furniture. To help tell the story of the Old Lumber collection, we enhanced each vignette with salvaged and vintage goods. Old windows and doors became interior backdrops, while vintage books and rusty, old toolboxes lined the shelves. We made light fixtures from old wine barrel straps and sculptural driftwood, we re-purposed old frames as chalkboard signage, and we softened the whole look with burlap and grain sack pillows atop natural, linen sofas. Many of our traditional "Harvest" signatures could be found throughout the casually elegant space.

We enjoyed a fantastic response to our design and had such a wonderful time sharing this amazing resource with retailers from around the world.

Here are some of my favorite highlights...

I can't wait to integrate these fabulous new looks into the Harvest stores!
