In client meetings, I often talk about the concept of layering. Creating that successful mix of pattern, color and texture that gives a space a collected and dynamic appeal. The "layered look" is the antithesis of purchasing the matching set found in a showroom suite. Layering takes time and attention, but results in a room that speaks to its owner's personal sense of style.
The following images are excellent demonstrations of the layering effect. Though few of the pieces in each room "match", they all balance eachother out and coordinate in a way that expresses creativity and harmony. The designers of these spaces have managed to mix and match pattern, color and texture to create a whole that is greater than the sum of all its parts.
